fibromyalgia Tender Points And fibromyalgia Study

fibromyalgia tender points or trigger points Can be best identified by the acute pain felt in different areas of the body where by feeling around you would be able to feel a sharp pain or tender point that may feel similar to a bruise.

Feeling pain in about 10 to 20 particular spots on the body is explained as just one of the two major symptoms of fibromyalgia syndrome.

What Could Be the Causes for Fibromyalgia Tender Points or Trigger Points?

The opinions of the experts are divided on this topic. Some say that this happens because of weakening of the muscles at certain spots but are not able to say what could be the cause of such uneven weakening of these muscles.

Why does pain not affect all muscles in all spots instead of certain areas of the body?

Some say that these painful Fibromyalgia trigger points or tender Points happen due to either too much oxidation plus the fact that there is too little oxygen available. Based on this theory anti-oxidants have been added to the diet recommended for Fibromyalgia with excellent results.  The excellent results point to the fact that this theory might be correct.

What Is Recommended For Curing the Pain of Fibromyalgia Tender Points or Trigger Points

Unfortunately, there is no cure for this ailment. However, proper symptomatic treatment is very efficient in controlling the pain. The best and most popular treatment is adding anti-oxidants to your diet.  There are different anti-oxidants in different foods and you would require your nutritionist to work out a diet which includes a massive dose of these if you want to get rid of the pain.

Fibromyalgia Symptoms can be greatly reduced by bringing exercise into your routine to bring oxygen to your muscles.By using Fibromyalgia and exercise formulas 20 to 30 minutes a day can curtail the pain felt in  the affected areas and fight the most severe fibromyalgia symptoms. The exercise should be moderate.

If you serious about feeling better than nothing can help more than sticking to your diet  and exercise plan. Some people stop their plan and regiment mostly because they are feeling better and feel that they no longer need it,so definitely keep it going.Your muscles will eventually develop a deficiency and you’ll more than likely have to start over from square one again.

Is Lyrica a Good Treatment for fibromyalgia?

If you suffer from fibromyalgia, you know how debilitating and persistent the symptoms can be! You may experience persistent muscle aches, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and frequent stiffness and joint discomfort. The
symptoms can be so severe and restricting that it’s difficult to complete simple daily tasks or hold down a full time job. Previously, the only effective class of drugs recommended for initial treatment of fibromyalgia have been antidepressants which don’t always provide adequate symptom relief. Plus, antidepressants can cause significant side effects in users including dry mouth, dizziness, excessive sleepiness, anxiety, and weight gain which can limit their usage.

A recent double-blind, controlled fibromyalgia study, presented at the American Academy of Neurology’s annual meeting, looked at the effects of a drug called pregabalin or Lyrica on the symptoms of 745 patients who had been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. The drug, although not yet approved specifically for use in fibromyalgia, was approved for use in the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy and postherpetic neuralgia in 2004. This drug has proven to be effective and well tolerated for treatment of these two conditions and have been well tolerated, in general.

In this current study, Lyrica was found to relieve the chronic pain associated with fibromyalgia and improve the general quality of life for persons diagnosed with this difficult to treat disorder.Patients began to experience improvement in their levels of pain and fatigue as early as the first week on the new drug treatment. By the end of the study, many patients reported up to a 50% reduction in pain after treatment with Lyrica when compared with the placebo group. Lyrica also seemed to have positive effects on the sleep patterns of fibromyalgia sufferers and helped to reduce daytime fatigue. The most frequent side effects associated with the use of Lyrica were dizziness and excessive sleepiness.

If further studies support use of this drug to treat fibromyalgia, the consequences. could be far reaching. This disorder affects around 6 millions Americans and can cause significant disability and loss of productivity of untreated. At the present time, the cause of this disease has been undetermined.

This particular study was sponsored by the pharmaceutical company, Pfizer, which has an application pending for approval of Lyrica for treatment of fibromyalgia symptoms. If this drug is approved and goes into widespread use, could it be the answer to successfully treating fibromyalgia? Millions of fibromyalgia sufferers who experience symptoms on a daily basis certainly hope so!

Lyrica: A New Treatment for fibromyalgia Symptoms

What is fibromyalgia? It’s an arthritis like condition that causes diffuse muscle pains and excessive fatigue in the sufferer. Surprisingly enough, it affects as many as 2-3% of the general population, primarily middle aged women, and is an important cause of missed days from work and loss of productivity. Previously, there hasn’t been an FDA approved fibromyalgia medication available to treat this condition. Prior treatments for fibromyalgia, focusing on reducing levels of pain through pain management, have been relatively ineffective in most patients. Plus, new treatments have been difficult to develop as the cause of this perplexing disease is still unknown.

Fortunately, the FDA just announced the approval of a new fibromyalgia medication called Lyrica to treat the symptoms of this condition.. Interestingly enough, this is not a new drug to the medical community. It’s been used to treat a variety of other conditions unrelated to fibromyalgia including pain associated with diabetic neuropathy, pain associated with shingles and treatment of partial seizures. This would be the drug’s first approval specifically for the treatment of fibromyalgia symptoms.

Before approving this drug, the FDA looked at the results of randomized, controlled, double-blind studies on over 1800 people before giving their support and approval for the use of Lyrica in fibromyalgia patients. This fibromyalgia medication was shown to decrease pain levels in patients affected with the condition as well as improve their ability to carry out their daily activities. Reduction in pain levels were seen as early as the first week of treatment and were associated with significant improvement in sleep patterns as well as improvement in levels of fatigue experienced during the daytime hours. Adverse effects included difficulty concentrating, dizziness, and daytime sleepiness. There were also some reports of visual changes, weight gain, and dry mouth in patients enrolled in the studies. The side effects experienced by the patients in the studies appeared to be dose dependent.

Could this be the answer that fibromyalgia sufferers have been looking for? It’s too early to tell, but the preliminary test results look optimistic. If you or someone you know suffers from this condition, you may want to ask your family doctor to tell you more about this newly approved fibromyalgia medication and ask him or her if it would be right for you.
