Abiding by the Proper fibromyalgia Diet

Chronic pain sufferers often seek medical attention; this is a condition which most medical experts would conclude to be that of fibromyalgia. There are no known cures and official treatments for this chronic medical condition and the reason for this is rather simple; there are also no official causes of which has been recognized despite years of research and studying this condition. There are some treatments and medications available though is not necessarily meant for the eradication of the pain yet may aide in alleviating the symptoms.

There are also some alternative treatments available as well as that of simple things one can do to help them in their daily battles with this kind of condition. There are no actual strict diets when it comes to this kind of condition; this is nothing similar to that of diabetes or heart disease.

Among the food items of which will trigger or even perhaps heighten the pain are: refined sugar, artificial sugar such as that of aspartame, monosodium glutamate or MSG, high calorie food, high saturated fat prepared meals or better known as fried food items, caffeinated drinks such as that of coffee, high sugar food items or candies, and even those of alcoholic beverages, and tobacco products such as that of cigarettes.

MSG and artificial sugars are known to actually be able to stimulate pain receptors found in the spinal cord. Alcoholic drinks, candies and caffeine are known to make one of the most common symptoms, sleep disturbance worse.

The best food items one can find in a helpful Fibromyalgia diet are fruits, vegetables, protein rich foods such as lean meat, poultry, fish and dried beans, grains, low fat dairy products, yogurt and cheese, carbohydrate rich foods and dark chocolates. These should be taken in healthy proportions thus the idea of balance proves essential.

The key here is the development of amino acids which will aide in the protein build up in the body thus making one’s constitution less likely to become susceptible to pain. As Fibromyalgia is known to be a condition where tissue abnormalities are most likely to occur, when one begins to eat healthy food items in proper proportions, one would be able to not only boost their immune system but also to be able to regenerate and help their muscles repair itself to help alleviate stiffness and the chronic heightening pain this condition is best known for.

    Is fibromyalgia Reversable?

    fibromyalgia is often referred to as a chronic condition or a syndrome involving pain. Translated it means fibro (fiber) my(o) muscle, algia (pain). It is a disorder which affects by far more women than men. While the true cause of fibromyalgia is still uncertain there is speculation of it having something to do with genetic predisposition. Certain factors experienced over a period of time can trigger its onset including stress, anxiety and depression. While pain might be the main complaint, there are other major symptoms associated with the fibromyalgia syndrome, such as fatigue, sleeping disorder and stiff joints. But fibromyalgia doesn’t just affect the muscular system. It can block proper functioning of any body system, inhibiting proper digestive functioning for example.

    Not everybody, who has been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, might experience all the same symptoms. We are all unique individuals and react differently to what we are exposed in life. If you have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia or you think you have the classic symptoms, then your body is trying to tell you that it has been thrown off balance and needs your help to gain homeostasis again. Homeostasis is the body’s ability to keep a perfect balance. 

    In recent times there has been lots of research done about the effects oxygen has on our body.  It was noted that our body requires a sufficient amount of oxygen to stay completely healthy.  It is no wonder that stress, fear, depression change our breathing pattern, not allowing enough oxygen to enter our body, starting an on-going cycle of emotional and physical discomfort.  This cycle can last for months and sometimes even turn into an ailment or condition such as Fibromyalgia.

    Most people suffering from Fibromyalgia do see their medical doctors for pain management solutions. Pain is one of the symptoms of Fibromyalgia.  A symptom is simply a message, letting you know that your body is no longer in perfect balance.  If we fight the symptoms, they keep coming back.  If we fight the cause, the root of the problem, then the symptoms won’t get a chance to make an appearance.

    Five Easy-To-Follow Steps That Could Change Your Life 

    Step 1: Consider a detox program to supply all digestive organs with the necessary nutrition to clean out debris and toxins within the digestive tract. Consider this cleanse a new start, a healthy diet made of natural and organic ingredients, such as raw vegetables and fruits, good quality meats, fish and grains. Stay away from processed foods. Diet changes can have amazing results on your physical and emotional well-being. Avoid refined sugars and sugar drinks. Drink plenty of water in between meals to promote a healthy digestion.

Deep breathing doesn’t just promote good health but it helps fight stress. When you inhale, make sure you extend your belly. Slowly exhale while bringing the belly back to the starting position. This is called Hara Breathing and has been practiced in Asia for thousands of years already.

    Step 4: Stretching is necessary to keep structural balance, which will allow us to live with fewer muscular pains. Static Stretches should be held in position for a minimum of 30 – 60 seconds, the longer the better the results are. View your body in a big mirror, frontview and then sideview. Do you have a rounded back? Are your shoulders tilted forward? Is one shoulder sitting higher up than the other? These imbalances can have pain-producing effects on other parts of the body. For instance,a rounded back and forward-tilted shoulders are usually the result of short chest and abdominal muscles. A muscle lengthening stretching program is essential in keeping our structures healthy and painfree.

    Step 5: Start an exercise program that appeals to you. Exercising will release endorphins. Endorphins are neurotransmitters, which act as natural painkillers. Exercising will also give you a feel-good sensation, especially beneficial if you are suffering from anxiety and depression. It will allow your lungs to open up and supply your cells with plenty of oxygen which is essential for maintaining a healthy cellular system.  Plus, if you have painful trigger points (knots) on your back, a back strengthening exercise program would be beneficial as it increases circulation and reduces the size of these trigger points.

    Oxygen is the key ingredient in all five steps, which tells us that our cells depend on it to stay healthy and/or become healthy again. It is the food that our cells crave. Lack of oxygen is the creator of ailments. If you are serious about fighting fibromyalgia including anxiety and depression, I recommend a program that doesn’t just take care of one symptom but a program that will fight the cause of all the symptoms.

    As a therapist and holistic healer I have come across many fibromyalgia patients. I have seen amazing results. The most important fact about achieving healing is that we are open to accepting a certain treatment. Otherwise, if we believe that nothing will work, we already are determined to give up and this negative energy will block the healing energy that is ready and available in our body.

    If we want to fight fibromyalgia, we need to combat stress with all the weapons available to us. For that reason, I recommend starting with a program that will increase oxygen absorption, which will promote detoxification and increase metabolism, reduce painful trigger points, increase the release of endorphins, and decrease anxiety and depression.  Believe in yourself and believe in the fact that our body knows how to cure itself if given the right ingredients.

      Effective fibromyalgia Treatment Reached Through a Healthy Diet

      Many Americans, mostly women, suffer from a chronic condition known as fibromyalgia. Fatigue, tender points, and chronic pain in muscles, ligaments, and tendons characterize fibromyalgia. The condition is not progressive or fatal, but it is extremely uncomfortable for the sufferer. Fibromyalgia treatment can help alleviate the symptoms, but they may never truly disappear. Fibromyalgia and diet go hand in hand. Healthier foods help alleviate the symptoms even though there is no actual proven fibromyalgia diet.


      Depending on the patients individual symptoms, a particular patients diet will vary. It is wise for any fibromyalgia patient to consult his or her doctor before engaging in a special diet. Fibromyalgia diet nutrition not only helps most fibromyalgia sufferers, but would also serve to benefit almost anyone. One of the most highly recommended dietary changes is to eat smaller meals more frequently each day. Eating smaller meals five or six times a day compared to the traditional three meals a day can greatly reduce fatigue.


      When engaging in an effective fibromyalgia diet it is beneficial to balance meals. This means to eat equal amounts of proteins, carbohydrates, dairy, fruits, and vegetables with each meal. While eating balanced meals will help, many fibromyalgia patients benefit greatly from vitamin supplements. Vitamin supplements not only provide a boost of vitamin and mineral necessities but also help the body to better absorb such nutrients from food.


      Because a healthy diet is so important to treating fibromyalgia, there are foods to avoid. First and foremost, if the patient has any food allergies, it is wise to eliminate those foods from the diet entirely. It is also important to limit the sugar, caffeine, and alcohol intake on a daily basis. Drinking all natural juices and avoiding high fructose corn syrup can greatly reduce the amount of sugar in the diet. While caffeine gives a boost of energy, it may also inhibit healthy sleep patterns therefore should only be ingested in the morning. Alcohol can also affect sleep patterns and dehydrate the body.


      Other foods to avoid when adjusting to a fibromyalgia diet are preservatives, artificial sweeteners, and glutamates. A healthy diet, especially for fibromyalgia sufferers should be comprised of all natural ingredients. Artificial ingredients, even at a miniscule level can act as toxins within the body.


      An excellent way to see if the fibromyalgia diet is working is to keep a food diary for a period of time. A food diary of sorts kept by a fibromyalgia sufferer is found online in Fibro Diet Part I and II. The food diary will help the patient reflect on what he or she ate and how it made them feel. This will help identify harmful food patterns that could be worsening the symptoms.

        Listen to your body. Everyone’s metabolism is unique and so is everyone’s diet. There are however, some general tips for everyone’s body to help them feel better. Get rid of the white processed foods that are packed with refined sugars. Also, cut down on fatty foods. Eat more fruits and veggies. Does this sound familiar? Isn’t what our parents have been telling us for years? Well, the hard part is following through on these suggestions.

        Fruits and veggies can have amazing benefits for Fibromyalgia sufferers. Fruits and veggies are good sources of vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants and other good nutrients. Eating these has many advantages.

        Take the carrot, for instance. It is packed with Beta-carotene which is an antioxidant full of nutritional benefit. Beta Carotene can also be found in apricots, broccoli, kale, spinach, and squash. Another great antioxidant is Vitamin C. We know where some of the major sources of Vitamin C are found: grapefruit, oranges, tangerines, tangelos, etc. But did you know that there is a whole bunch of Vitamin C hanging out in green stuff as well? Sources such as broccoli, kiwi, green peppers, green leafy veggies and more. These antioxidants are essential to your good health and fight against fibromyalgia.

        Most people eat less than half of the amount of fruits and veggies they should in a day. The Food Guide Pyramid recommends 5-9 servings each day. I think we should tend to lean on the 9 a day. I know this sounds like a lot but the benefits are so worth it. Try and eat fresh fruit and vegetables and only go to canned or frozen in off-seasons or when there isn’t fresh available.

        Other diet tips for fibromyalgia sufferers include; drink more water. Help your body flush the toxins out and to eliminate waste. This will also help with your intestinal problems that are common to fibromyalgia sufferers. More protein and less carbs help just about every body type whether you have fibromyalgia or not. It helps fight the fatigue as well. Stay away from caffeine. Caffeine can make your bad gut worse and make your symptoms of IBS and fibromyalgia worse.

        Like I said earlier, there isn’t a magic diet that is going to cure you overnight but with some discipline and attention to your diet you can succeed in ridding yourself of the pain and fatigue associated with this terrible condition. There is hope and you can get better. These tips can make a difference in your life and help you on your way to an energetic joyful life.

It is really important that you drink at least the recommended 8 glasses of water a day, preferably more. Dehydration usually causes fatigue and headaches; two symptoms of fibromyalgia, so staying hydrated is vital.

        You also need to ensure that you eat a healthy diet every day. Incorporate green leafy vegetables, fish rich in essential fatty acids and fruits. Stay away from caffeine-rich food and beverages and eliminate or minimize your intake of fried and fatty food. As much as possible, limit your intake of processed food too as these foods can contain hidden excesses of salt, sugar and preservatives.

        Fibromyalgia and flax seed

        Adding flax seed, either as oil, supplements or ground is a useful addition to a fibromyalgia diet. Try adding three tablespoons of flax seed oil or ground flax seed to your food daily.
