Medication Not Exclusive To fibromyalgia Therapy Medication

Targeting the same area of the body, the nerves and the nervous system, fibromyalgia therapy medication is created. Therapy itself, however, is also known as physical therapy. Sufferers of fibromyalgia will surely benefit from physical therapy. This kind of therapy in the water provides support for the tired, achy muscles with little to no impact. After water therapy, most patients have reported decreased pain and discomfort for days. Another low-impact fibromyalgia therapy is calisthenics for those patients with pain caused by fibromyalgia. Working out to put strength to the muscles with elastic bands for resistance allows the nerves to stay confused about healthy tissue or painful surroundings. The nerves, therefore, do not send extreme signals of pain to the brain.

Examples of small, non-impact exercises like leg lifts from your favourite chair while you watch your favourite soap opera or television program will help your body to not give in to the undesirable pain.

A big difference can be brought about by little things when you suffer from nerve pain caused by fibromyalgia. Your very own primary care physician can balance the fibromyalgia therapy medication and physical therapy. All the simple things you can do while you load the dishwasher or fixing your dinner or lunch, may just get you over that uncomfortable hump that is holding you back from finishing your tasks. Do not underestimate the power of the combination of therapies. Exercises, water therapy and medication for fibromyalgia can work together in order to help the patient to have normal life as much as possible. This type of therapy medication has but one focus: to alleviate the pain so the person would still be able to do what they need to do day by day.

Fibromyalgia therapy medication works in wonderful ways! Do not stop with the therapy medication for fibromyalgia.

Look for more materials about the disease and find out how the others are treating it. Check out also how to lessen he need for medications. There are also some natural therapy medication for fibromyalgia and remedies. Add to your medication some seemingly insignificant muscle toning movements.

Healing fibromyalgia – a New Journey

Healing fibromyalgia is essential and absolutely necessary, especially since fibromyalgia sufferers are twice as likely to get cancer. Fibromyalgia symptoms affect nine women for every one man and the possibility of getting Fibromyalgia increases with time. Often symptoms start after a traumatic event; it can be either physical or emotional; but in most cases there is no one specific incident that triggers the condition.

Is healing Fibromyalgia possible? Absolutely! While there isn’t a miracle pill that will make all your symptoms disappear, you can do a lot to improve the condition and the hurtful symptoms. For more information and sources please visit my site or my blog.

Many things can be done for you to help healing fibromyalgia symptoms. Most people will be tempted to take pain medication such as Tylenol and others. While these may help temporarily to ease the pain and stiffness, they are not a long term solution because they are just an illusion. In fact they only ad to prevent healing Fibromyalgia all together. There are also more powerful drugs available from your doctor such as Ultram, Prozac, Cymbalta and more. The pain Fibromyalgia causes can get you easily depressed. I remember spending my days either on my bed or the couch for 15 hours a day, accomplishing absolutely nothing, too tired to do anything and too hurt to fall into a deep sleep. Using pain medication or antidepressants, however, only prevents healing Fibromyalgia in the long run. To ad to this dilemma, doctors also prescribe anti-seizure drugs generally used for epilepsy to Fibromyalgia patients in an effort to reduce certain types of pain. These could be drugs such as Neurontin or Lyrica.

Healing Fibromyalgia has to begin from the inside, since that is where it started in the first place. A person with Fibromyalgia symptoms lives in a body in which the wires are crossed and the nervous system is utterly confused. Your nervous system is directly connected to your blood, which is directly linked to your liver. Putting drugs of any kind through our body, be it simple pain medication or mind altering seizure drugs puts you body in an even more baffled state while putting your liver in overdrive. Is it any surprise then that new research reveals that cancer risk is doubled for those suffering from Fibromyalgia?

Medication is an illusion giving you the impression that you’re feeling better when in fact you’re only temporarily numbing the pain. This temporary feel-good condition eventually rears its ugly head like a three-headed monster and will turn you towards other drugs to fix new problems.

The most important step to achieving healing Fibromyalgia is self-care. I cannot stress this enough! It certainly is more convenient and certainly speedier to reach for a pill, there are tons more healthier and fun things you can do by yourself to help increase your well being. Living a wholesome lifestyle as much as possible such as eating healthy food, eliminating all white sugars (sodas too) and all chemical additives (such as aspartame, equal and other artificial sweeteners), eliminate or competely limit caffeine, skip dairy until you are completely healed and do activities which you enjoy while pacing yourself. Be consistent by doing a little each day.

I can’t stress how critical it is for a Fibromyalgia sufferer to exercise every day. Without a doubt it may actually increase your tenderness at first but I promise in a few days or weeks the pain will lessen. Great forms of exercise to do be gentle with your body, such as swimming, easy hiking, walking, yoga. Hard exercise such as skiing, running or kickboxing might not be beneficial in healing Fibromyalgia at the beginning. Fatigue is one of the biggest challenges of Fibromyalgia, so make sure you get enough sleep. It helps to read a book one hour before going to bed and then meditating immediately before retiring. When I was sick with Fibromyalgia I put myself on a consistent schedule and stuck to it. I retired at the same time and got up at the same time each day. Your body will thank you for the routine. I drastically reduced non-beneficial stress and totally eliminated TV and stayed away from computers and cell phones for a while. Perhaps you can pick up yoga or gentle stretching exercises and definitely learn how to meditate.

Other approaches for healing Fibromyalgia might include alternative ways such as accupuncture, accupressure, lymphatic massages (stay away from the hard types of massages for a while). Other alternative methods might include a visit to a chircopractor, Reiki treatments and so forth. For more alternative healing tips visit my blog or my website.

For some patients with fibromyalgia, high blood pressure concerns are being raised. A recent study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine in February 2007 showed that common pain medications may increase the risk of high blood pressure in men. These medications include acetaminophen, aspirin and NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). The gloomy news for fibromyalgia patients is that these medications are also commonly prescribed to those suffering with this painful, debilitating condition.

The study in question involved 16,031 men, all health professionals with an average age of 64.6 years. In 2000 at the beginning of the study, they all did not have a history of hypertension. During the two years that followed, they began taking pain medications. Four years later during a follow-up, more than 1,900 of those involved in the study had developed high blood pressure.

The study further showed that those who took acetaminophen for at least six days out of a week increased the high blood pressure risk to 34%, while those who took aspirin with the same frequency increased theirs to 26%. The men who took NSAIDs increased their high blood pressure risk to 38%.

According to the researchers, their data support the hypothesis that analgesics can increase the risk of high blood pressure even when taken independently. This places fibromyalgia patients in a tricky position, considering that the first line of defense against the disorder is often pain relievers.

Is your fibromyalgia medication putting you at risk for high blood pressure?

It is an accepted fact that every medication has at least one side effect, which can vary in severity depending on the patient. Some medications, specifically NSAIDs, can cause a problem when taken with drugs for blood pressure that contain ACE inhibitors. With medications commonly prescribed for fibromyalgia, the risk of developing high blood pressure increases and it doesn’t stop with analgesics.

SSRIs and some anti-depressant medications prescribed for fibromyalgia may also lead to high blood pressure, often as a result of complications or side effects. COX-II inhibitors are another type of fibromyalgia drug used to fight inflammation. It’s especially effective when joint swelling and muscle pain are present. COX-II inhibitors block COX-II enzymes that regulate the production of substances called prostaglandins.

Prostaglandins are produced by the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme and are responsible for the promotion of the inflammatory reaction within the body. When prostaglandins are blocked as a result of the action of COX-II inhibitors, pain and swelling are stopped. The only problem is that COX-II inhibitors have side effects that include high blood pressure.

        The consequence of living pain-free

Despite the extreme discomfort and pain it causes, fibromyalgia is not a degenerative disease, nor is it a fatal disorder. However, it is a chronic ailment that produces pain and fatigue that can last for months or even years, so it’s not uncommon to see fibromyalgia patients taking medications regularly for long periods of time.

Drugs used to treat fibromyalgia symptoms have had varying degrees of success, but the main challenge for many patients at risk of developing hypertension is how to manage fibromyalgia high blood pressure symptoms simultaneously. This makes it even more important that patients educate themselves about potential risks and benefits of any treatment they consider, and take a proactive role in the management of their disorder.

Chronic pain, such as that experienced by people with fibromyalgia is often only remedied by medication. Depending on the severity of the condition and the number of symptoms different doses and combinations of drugs may be used. Since fibromyalgia tends to be a chronic condition, many patients will need to take fibromyalgia pain medications for long periods of time. This makes it especially important for them to consult with their doctors about their medications and expected side effects.

Side effects of medications used for fibromyalgia
Every drug has side effects that can vary depending on the people using them. It all depends on the person’s specific body makeup, overall health and even allergies, if they have them.

For fibromyalgia medication to become an effective treatment to the disorder, these side effects must be known and understood. Here are the commonly used fibromyalgia medications and their known side effects:

        Non-opioids
Fibromyalgia medications that are considered non-opioids include acetaminophen, ibuprofen and aspirin. These are all used to treat pain and may be obtained over-the-counter or with a prescription. While they are effective against pain, some non-opioids can cause gastrointestinal problems that can lead to stomach upset and even bleeding. They can also trigger asthma and cause nausea and vomiting.

Acetaminophens have milder side effects but if they are taken in high doses, they can affect the liver. You should avoid alcohol and stick to the recommended dosages.

        Anti-depressants
Anti-depressants are often prescribed in conjunction with other fibromyalgia medications for their calming effect. They are also effective in inducing sleep and helping patients to feel relaxed. As a result, sufferers sleep better and feel less fatigued during the day. Some of the risks of using anti-depressants include constipation, dizziness, lightheadedness and mouth dryness.

        Sleep modifiers
Sleep modifiers are often prescribed along with fibromyalgia medications if insomnia is a problem. While they are effective for inducing sleep and minimizing fatigue, sleep modifiers are only prescribed as short-term treatment because they can be habit forming.

They can also cause withdrawal effects on people who have been using them for some time and suddenly stop. They are not recommended for intake during times when the patient has to be outdoors driving, riding a public transportation or working in an area where sleepiness might result to an accident.

        Anti-spastic
Anti-spastic drugs are sometimes used with other fibromyalgia medications to ease uncomfortable muscle spasms and control burning or tingling sensations that result from a nerve injury. If taken in high dosage for a long period of time, they can cause liver problems and lower white and red blood cells.

        Steroids
Steroids help reduce pain caused by swelling or inflammation. On the downside, they can cause fluid build-up, stomach irritation, muscle weakness and bleeding. In some patients, steroids may also cause confusion.

        Opioids
If patients do not respond to lower-dose fibromyalgia medication to treat pain, doctors may sometimes prescribe opioids, which are effective against moderate to severe pain. Opioids like morphine, codeine, methadone, hydromorphone and hydrocodone are very effective in reducing pain but patients may not find their side effects pleasant. Some of these include drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, constipation, itching and urination problems. Because they can be addictive, they are also not prescribed for regular use.
