fibromyalgia is a confusing condition with many symptoms. While no one knows the cause or indeed has a cure for this syndrome, it affects a large proportion of people, mostly women between the age of 20 to 50. If you happen to be one of these people and have learned to begin to cope with fibromyalgia only to begin experiencing fibromyalgia numbness it can be another frustration on top of an already debilitating condition.

Fibromyalgia numbness effects roughly a quarter of all sufferers and can curtail physical activities from personal hygiene to the accomplishment of daily work and other routines. The numbness can occur anywhere throughout the body, but the most common areas are the arms and hands and the legs and feet, occasionally the face. In medical jargon this numbness is called parestheia.

The numbness is often accompanied by tingling or burning sensations, or can feel similar to pins and needles. It can move from area to area and differ in severity and length of time. There isn’t really a clear explanation as to why this numbness happens with fibromyalgia sufferers, neither is there any treatment that can be prescribed, unless there is pain involved with numbness, then some neuropathic pain medication may be appropriate.

Often when the numbness strikes people can undergo many tests as numbness is also a sign of other ailments like diabetes, carpal tunnel syndrome, hypoglycemia or multiple sclerosis. Only to have them return negative.

However, if numbness is a new condition that you are experiencing it is important to mention it to your doctor just to be sure that it isn’t being caused by something other than your fibromyalgia.

While Fibromyalgia has no known cure, individuals who suffer from this syndrome have been known to go into remission. The key to coping with Fibromyalgia is to maximize the remission time and to be able to minimize the impacts of the bad times.

A treatment program that involves both medical and alternative methods as well as lifestyle changes appears to offer the best outcome for sufferers.

A study was done on a group of 84 fibromyalgia patients were one half were given medications and the other half did mild exercise, swimming, adopted relaxation techniques and made small changes in their diet.

The group following the lifestyle change regime reported feeling less fatigued, having less depression and anxiety and with the added boost of having more energy. The group that only took the medical treatments reported no change in the way they felt at the end of the trial.

Although lifestyle changes won’t target the fibromyalgia numbness specifically, they can help to reduce symptoms in general and improve the overall quality of life.

Are you experiencing chronic pain in your muscles and joints without having any history of trauma or injury? This may have left you wondering what’s behind this widespread pain? Well, you are not alone in your dilemma and if you’ve been experiencing this pain for 3 months or more it may be worth asking your doctor about diagnosing fibromyalgia.

fibromyalgia is condition, which is characterized by widespread, chronic pain throughout various points in the body. Sometimes, the pain will come and go or move from one area to another, puzzling the person as to where it comes from.

In addition to the widespread pain that can be felt in the body’s muscles, joints and tendons, fibromyalgia is also often accompanied by a sleeping disorder called alpha wave. This disturbs the sleep through increased brain activity that is similar to wakefulness.

This results to fatigue and tiredness because people with fibromyalgia do not experience the kind of restorative deep sleep that they should have. There will also be an increased sensitivity to the way pain is felt.

Most patients with fibromyalgia feel pain easily even with just a slight pressure. They are more sensitive to pain compared to other individuals. This is the reason why some experts believe that the condition is caused by a dysfunction in the way the brain sends pain signals to the receptors.

People afflicted with fibromyalgia may also experience mood swings, and depression.

As mentioned before, fibromyalgia is one of the harder conditions to diagnose perhaps because the cause is unknown and there can be so many symptoms that mimic other conditions.

The approach that doctors take is to conduct several tests and rule out other possibilities for the symptoms. Among the possible conditions that have similar symptoms are rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. This is why it is vital to tell your doctor about all the symptoms you’re having because what may be unrelated to you could in fact be very important.

Due to the difficulties over diagnosis, the American College of Rheumatology drew up diagnosing guidelines that can help physicians in diagnosing fibromyalgia. Some doctors however do not follow these to the letter because they feel that the guidelines are too strict.

Still, it is worth looking into especially when determining if you have fibromyalgia or not. According to the criteria set up, fibromyalgia may be diagnosed if widespread pain reaches a period of three consecutive months or more.

There should also be a minimum of 11 out of 18 specific different points in the body that are tender and painful when touched with light pressure (4kg of pressure).

Diagnosing fibromyalgia may take some perseverance so try keeping a diary to record all your symptoms so that you’re prepared when you visit the doctor. This will ensure you don’t forget any during your consultation and secondly, find a doctor that is sympathetic to your symptoms.

So you may be wondering what to do about the fibromyalgia pain and other devastating symptoms you have. You may be wondering if there is a fibromyalgia diet out there that works. See if this scenario sounds familiar to you.

You have gone from doctor to doctor looking for a diagnosis. You have terrible pain in the trigger points, you are severely fatigued, anxious, experiencing brain fog, but don’t know what to do.

Doctor’s are having a hard time diagnosing you and treating your symptoms. You may feel crazy, like no one understands how you are feeling and what you are going through. Doctor’s may not know how to treat you, but there is help. You are not crazy!

There’s a secret out there in the medical community that can help your fibromyalgia symptoms get better. Many studies have been done to show that changing your diet can help you alleviate the severity of your symptoms. A magic diet? No, there is no such thing. But there are some things that research is validating when it comes to your diet and fibromyalgia.

Listen to your body. Everyone’s metabolism is unique and so is everyone’s diet. There are however, some general tips for everyone’s body to help them feel better. Get rid of the white processed foods that are packed with refined sugars. Also, cut down on fatty foods. Eat more fruits and veggies. Does this sound familiar? Isn’t what our parents have been telling us for years? Well, the hard part is following through on these suggestions.

Fruits and veggies can have amazing benefits for Fibromyalgia sufferers. Fruits and veggies are good sources of vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants and other good nutrients. Eating these has many advantages.

Take the carrot, for instance. It is packed with Beta-carotene which is an antioxidant full of nutritional benefit. Beta Carotene can also be found in apricots, broccoli, kale, spinach, and squash. Another great antioxidant is Vitamin C. We know where some of the major sources of Vitamin C are found: grapefruit, oranges, tangerines, tangelos, etc. But did you know that there is a whole bunch of Vitamin C hanging out in green stuff as well? Sources such as broccoli, kiwi, green peppers, green leafy veggies and more. These antioxidants are essential to your good health and fight against fibromyalgia.

Most people eat less than half of the amount of fruits and veggies they should in a day. The Food Guide Pyramid recommends 5-9 servings each day. I think we should tend to lean on the 9 a day. I know this sounds like a lot but the benefits are so worth it. Try and eat fresh fruit and vegetables and only go to canned or frozen in off-seasons or when there isn’t fresh available.

Other diet tips for fibromyalgia sufferers include; drink more water. Help your body flush the toxins out and to eliminate waste. This will also help with your intestinal problems that are common to fibromyalgia sufferers. More protein and less carbs help just about every body type whether you have fibromyalgia or not. It helps fight the fatigue as well. Stay away from caffeine. Caffeine can make your bad gut worse and make your symptoms of IBS and fibromyalgia worse.

Like I said earlier, there isn’t a magic diet that is going to cure you overnight but with some discipline and attention to your diet you can succeed in ridding yourself of the pain and fatigue associated with this terrible condition. There is hope and you can get better. These tips can make a difference in your life and help you on your way to an energetic joyful life.
